Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock (40, U2)

Song:
40 (How Long)

Artist:
U2
Album:
War
(1983)

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him”Psalm 40:1-3

This episode has two segments. In the first segment, Randy Spencer, Consultant & Community Partnership Coordinator for Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock, will be with us talking about ways we can help Alice’s organization and the teens that use the facilities at The Rock. In the second segment, Sophie Dorsten, singer/songwriter and student at The Rock will be with us talking about her experiences there.

Our discussion is based on the Solid Rock Teen Center and the many opportunities teens have within that organization.

We also take some time to discuss the collaboration project “The Rock” students and The Cooper family recorded using various clips and recordings to create their rendition of U2’s “40 (How Long)” from the 1983 album “War.”

“Solid Rock’s primary mission is to make an everlasting difference in the lives of teens by helping them meet the spiritual, economic, physical, and social needs of teens in the community by offering a safe, engaging environment during non-school hours. Maintaining “a teen’s worst enemy is too much time on their hands,” Solid Rock provides the music, arts, vocational programs and fellowship that challenge teens to discover their passion through music, dance, video and sound production, self-expression, and creativity.”

“I love the song “40”; it’s so uplifting…it’s a spiritual song but not in your face spiritual.  The teens didn’t know that Alice and Sheryl were going to be in the video. So, when we edited it and released it, the teens saw that the Cooper family was a part of it, and it was a surprise for the kids.” – Randy Spencer

“I felt like it was a great song (U2’s “40”) for everyone to sing together…to bring everyone on together as far as like on social media and all over the world, and even though we are apart, we can still be together.” – Sophie Dorsten

During the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the teens from Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock collaborated via ZOOM and other various apps to create an uplifting rendition of the song “40.” During the chorus of the song, Alice and his family (Sheryl, Calico, Dash, and Sonora) join the teens in echoing the words of the song.

“40 (How Long)”
song lyrics:

I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He brought me up out of the pit
Out of the mire and clay

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long, how long, how long
How long, to sing this song

He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song
How long, how long, how long
How long, to sing this song

Have you accepted Christ as your Savior?

If you would like to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, please pray the following prayer:

“God, I believe in you and your son Jesus Christ.  I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to save me. Today, I invite Jesus into my heart to stay.  I make you Lord over my life. Make me new. Wash me, Lord, and cleanse me. In Jesus Name, Amen”

If you have just prayed that prayer, we want to celebrate your new victory with you.  Please contact us at prayers@oceanfloorministries.com so we can welcome you into the kingdom.  We don’t want you to have to walk alone and we have some resources we would like the opportunity to share with you.
