“Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. 3 What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? 4 A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.” – Ecclesiastes 1:2-4

In this episode, we meet up with Dave & Tyler from the Pulp Christian Podcast Show (PCP). They will be with us talking about their show and some other interesting topics including homosexuality, Christian in-fighting, and the dangers of “fake” Christianity.

Our Discussion also involves the song “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” from The Smashing Pumpkins’ 1995 “Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness” LP.

Pulp Christian Podcast

Pulp Christian is a podcast by Dave Pendras and Tyler Johnson discussing the highs and woes of modern Christianity.

We aren’t experts or pastors. In fact Dave just became a Christian. This is our attempt to talk through what Christianity is in today’s context, and back ourselves into corners on accident.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Smashing Pumpkins’ third studio album, was released in 1995. The 28-track album was a 2-disc CD and triple LP.

“Bullet with Butterfly Wings” propelled the LP to #1 on the Billboard 200 and paved the way for other hit singles such as “1979,” and “Tonight, Tonight.”

“I was sitting there bored out of my mind (the producers) were dicking around with some microphone, and I had this line in my head, ‘Despite all my rage. I’m still just a rat in a cage.’ I was just sitting there, bored, and I picked up the guitar and I started singing. But what if the guy had been like, ‘Ooh we’re ready!’? People don’t appreciate that there’s a thing that needs to happen. The stars need to align.” – Billy Corgan

“Bullet With Butterfly Wings”
song lyrics:

The world is a vampire, sent to drain
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get, for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game

Even though I know–I suppose I’ll show
All my cool and cold-like old job

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Now I’m naked, nothing but an animal
But can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want? I want to change
And what have you got?
When you feel the same

Even though I know–I suppose I’ll show
All my cool and cold-like old job

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Tell me I’m the only one, tell me there’s no other one
Jesus was an only son

Tell me I’m the chosen one
Jesus was an only son for you

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Tell me I’m the only one, tell me there’s no other one
Jesus was an only son

And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved
And I still believe that I cannot be saved

Have you accepted Christ as your Savior?

If you would like to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, please pray the following prayer:

“God, I believe in you and your son Jesus Christ.  I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to save me. Today, I invite Jesus into my heart to stay.  I make you Lord over my life. Make me new. Wash me, Lord, and cleanse me. In Jesus Name, Amen”

If you have just prayed that prayer, we want to celebrate your new victory with you.  Please contact us at prayers@oceanfloorministries.com so we can welcome you into the kingdom.  We don’t want you to have to walk alone and we have some resources we would like the opportunity to share with you.
