Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.”
Ecclesiastes 4:8-10

In this episode, we sit down with Clay Hatton, Musician & Admin. Asst. for Spirit Music Group.

Our discussion is based on U2’s song “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own.”

Clay Hatton

Musician & Admin. Asst. for Spirit Music Group

Clay Hatton was born into a family of Bluegrass pioneers. His time spent growing up in Vincennes, IN was spent basking in the musical talent of many generations before him. His passion and drive has led him to a career in the music industry.

After discovering Nashville singer-songwriters such as Dave Barnes, Ben Rector, and Matt Wertz, Clay admired their musicianship and ability to write about the journey and emotions of everyday life so much that he developed an inclination for songwriting himself and ultimately a desire to pursue a career within the music industry.

Clay now resides in Nashville, TN and is honored to be working with Spirit Music Group, founded in 1995 by a group of music industry rebels who wanted to return music publishing to its hard driving, entrepreneurial, service-and-results-oriented roots. In that position, he advocates for songwriters by registering their songs and ensuring that they receive any future royalty payments for their works.

U2 initially formed in 1976 and was briefly known as Feedback (1976-77) and The Hype (1977-1978). The original four members of the band are still together and have managed to survive the evolution of music for more than 40 years while also maintaining their anthemic superiority.

U2’s music has always carried a covert Christian message and often points towards their faith in Christ.

“But with Christ, we have access in a one-to-one relationship, for, as in the Old Testament, it was more one of worship and awe, a vertical relationship. The New Testament, on the other hand, we look across at a Jesus who looks familiar, horizontal. The combination is what makes the Cross.” Bono, U2’s Lead Singer

“Sometimes You Can’t
Make It On Your Own”
song lyrics:

Tough, you think you’ve got the stuff
You’re telling me and anyone
You’re hard enough

You don’t have to put up a fight
You don’t have to always be right
Let me take some of the punches

For you tonight
Listen to me now
I need to let you know

You don’t have to go it alone
And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone

Sometimes you can’t make it on your own
We fight, all the time
You and I, that’s alright
We’re the same soul
I don’t need, I don’t need to hear you say
That if we weren’t so alike

You’d like me a whole lot more
Listen to me now
I need to let you know

You don’t have to go it alone
And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own

Say, say, say

I know that we don’t talk
I’m sick of it all
Can you hear me when I
Sing, you’re the reason I sing
You’re the reason why the opera is in me

We’re here now
I’ve still got to let you know
A house doesn’t make a home
Don’t leave me here alone

And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own
Sometimes you can’t make it
Best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own

Have you accepted Christ as your Savior?

If you would like to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, please pray the following prayer:

“God, I believe in you and your son Jesus Christ.  I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to save me. Today, I invite Jesus into my heart to stay.  I make you Lord over my life. Make me new. Wash me, Lord, and cleanse me. In Jesus Name, Amen”

If you have just prayed that prayer, we want to celebrate your new victory with you.  Please contact us at prayers@oceanfloorministries.com so we can welcome you into the kingdom.  We don’t want you to have to walk alone and we have some resources we would like the opportunity to share with you.
